The Blue School approach is successfully adopted in a school in Madagascar. The Blue School committee includes a representative of education at municipal level, the association of parents (FRAM), students and teachers and the school director. The project provides management training and tools for holding two water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) animations per week. The price of water, the maintenance costs of infrastructure and the purchase of consumables (soap, toilet paper and towels for girls in menstruation age available in each cabin) are covered by 90% of the monthly contribution FRAM and by 10% of the operating budget of the school. The committee pays a person who maintains the infrastructure together with the students. In addition to the latrine blocks, drinking water points are installed close to the classroom. They allow watering the fruit plantations and gardens in the compound of the school. 95% of the students systematically practice hand washing with soap, much more than before the project.
